Payment:
Cash or Check is super, super appreciated. We don't enjoy giving money to Visa and Mastercard, but we are in the service industry and we aim to please, so we do accept them.
Although not required,
a guide gratuity at the end of your trip is a nice gesture of appreciation for outstanding service, good laughs, fun times and smiling children. Guiding is a hospitality industry comparable to that of a server at a restaurant, except that our guides spend more time with you, teach you more, keep you safe and make you laugh.
Reservations in advance are recommended, thou not required
1 or 2 weeks prior to your vacation is a good time frame to get the day / time that fits in best with your plans. Select a day early in your vacation!! in case we meet inclement weather, we will be able to reschedule easier. We will be expanding this year with overflow tours at 9:30 and 1:30 on extremely busy days if our preliminary tours fill up to accomodate the increase in business we have been having over the past few years. So walkins "should be" easier to satisfy at the time they walk in.
You can still call the day of to see if there are openings.
You will be asked the number of persons in your party, where you are staying, and credit card information to confirm your trip. Your credit card information is only used to reserve your space, we do put any charge on it, when we take it over the phone.
If you must change or cancel a reservation, we require that you do so at least 24 hours in advance, or your credit card will be billed per your reservation, unless we find participants to fill the spots. We have been very kind in the past in this aspect, but please understand that we are in business for 3-4 months of the year and if you make a reservation, we expect you to honor it as you would honor any business agreement.
Do not watch the weather channel, listen to the weatherman, or worry about big clouds in the sky, THAT IS OUR JOB. If you are hesitant about a tour going out, you still need to show up! If we know a tour is going to be cancelled because of weather, we will call you.
Cancellations because of Weather:
Door County Kayak Tours monitors the National Weather Service and consistently checks the satellite/radar at www.weatherunderground.com on our computer throughout the day. It is our policy that the final decision of which route is the most appropriate for your trip is made by your Guide. The decision to cancel a trip is made by your guide and we will make every effort to reschedule you at a later date.
The decision to cancel a tour is usually based on high winds or thunderstorms. If the wind is 20mph or greater, the guests have a choice to postpone or cancel their tour.
We do not cancel tours due to fog, drizzle, or chance of showers. Those conditions or forcasts often do not affect our tours, as we have many locations to paddle. These conditions have in fact, resulted in some of our best trips and wildlife sightings. Sage advice: Better to have it(wind breaker, hat, fleece) and not need it, than need it and not have it.
If we do cancel the tour during the drive to the destination or before 1/2 of the trip is completed, we will try to reschedule, if we are not able to reschedule, you will be given a full refund. If 1/2 of the tour or more is completed, the guide/manager will make the call to refund/issue a coupon/gift certificate to our guests for another tour.
Notice, if we cancel too many tours due to "subperfect" conditions we would not beable to operate our seasonal business.
